Sun Jr. is the sons of the sons of the founders of rock n' roll, part blues, part country, blended together to make the sound that changed the world. Like the acts from Sun Records,
but with almost a century's worth of influences and genres to bend.
On the family tree of The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and The Doors, and raised in the shadows of kindred cousins, My Morning Jacket and Johnny Blue Skies, the
sound feels both familiar and original at the same time.
Sun Jr. creates a wall of sound through their chemistry, love of improv and unique configuration of pedal steel, banjo, electric guitar, bass-organ, and drums. The band spins Rock n' Roll in a way that is both classic and indie, a tapestry of folk, Americana, and indie, melded with swirling psychedelic effects, or what's been called
Psych-Mountain Rock.Effortlessly slipping through the ebb and flows of ethereal space ballads, dark surf waltzes, and swampy foot-stomping jams, the band plays the moment more than the song. Layered within the song are the dynamic dual vocals of Jim Heekin and Matt Kubis. Jim’s rumbling twin-engine aircraft echoes between canyon walls, while Matt's banished angel calls out into the still mountain night.
More an experience than performance, tune in and drop out with Sun Jr. and you’ll be reverberating for days in the glow of the little sun.
