Welcome to the sun

BOULDER, COLORADO'S PSYCH MOUNTAIN ROCK BAND

Sun Jr. is the sons of the sons of the founders of rock n' roll, part blues, part country, blended together to make the sound that changed the world. Like the acts from Sun Records,
but with almost a century's worth of influences and genres to bend.

On the family tree of The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and The Doors, and raised in the shadows of kindred cousins, My Morning Jacket and Johnny Blue Skies, the
sound feels both familiar and original at the same time.

Sun Jr. creates a wall of sound through their chemistry, love of improv and unique configuration of pedal steel, banjo, electric guitar, bass-organ, and drums. The band spins Rock n' Roll in a way that is both classic and indie, a tapestry of folk, Americana, and indie, melded with swirling psychedelic effects, or what's been called Psych-Mountain Rock.

Effortlessly slipping through the ebb and flows of ethereal space ballads, dark surf waltzes, and swampy foot-stomping jams, the band plays the moment more than the song. Layered within the song are the dynamic dual vocals of Jim Heekin and Matt Kubis. Jim’s rumbling twin-engine aircraft echoes between canyon walls, while Matt's banished angel calls out into the still mountain night.

More an experience than performance, tune in and drop out with Sun Jr. and you’ll be reverberating for days in the glow of the little sun.

Formed in 2013, and hailing from Boulder, Colorado, Sun Jr.'s newest album The Many Moon Hex, was named to Westword's 2025 Top 10 Albums of the Year list, while the Aspen
Daily News called it, "The Best Rock Album of 2025".

The band has played at: Gentlemen of the Road Tour, Caveman Music Festival, Bluebird Music Festival, FIBArk, Winter Park's High-Note Thursday, Mackey Auditorium, The Boulder Theater, The Fox, The Aggie, E-Town, The Skylark Lounge, Jamestown Summer Series, Cosmic Winter Wonderfest, Winter Walkabout, Big B's Cider Fest, Cervantes' Next Door, Lulu's, Roots Music Project, The Velvet Elk, Dharma Farm, and The Lariat.

Did Aspen Daily music writer, Geoff Hanson just say, "...“The Many Moon Hex” might be the best rock album of 2025."

He did in fact write that…and say it countless times as we conducted this interview.  Geoff of the Taj Mahal soundtracked, iconic ski movie, Scrapple, and Widespread Panic: Live at Oak Mountain (2001) knows his music, so to have…

Thanks for joining us on this journey. Your contribution matters more than you know, from merch sales to telling a friend about our music.

It's all a part of something bigger, something that is uniquely special about the 5 of us making music together, but also about how our community can own the music for themselves, and share it with those who might want to be a part of the Sun Family.

We'll see you around the sun.
